Why I’m Passionate About Supporting Women in Midlife

Why am I so passionate about supporting women in midlife?

First, because I am a woman in midlife.
And second, this season hit me hard when it arrived.

After resigning from my job of nearly 20 years due to COVID’s financial impact on the non-profit I had co-founded, everything I understood about myself shifted. My oldest daughter was living in Chicago, my younger two were finishing high school, and my husband was leading a retirement community through the challenges of COVID.

The combination created a perfect storm of uncertainty, and I found myself wrestling with questions so many midlife women ask:

What am I supposed to do now?
What are my interests?
Who am I if no one needs me?

And then came an ADHD diagnosis—another layer I hadn’t expected.

I felt like very alone and unsure of what was next for me. If you’re a woman navigating midlife transitions, you may know that feeling too.

Everything started to shift when my daughter’s ADHD coach, Dr. Tamara Rosier, asked if I had ever considered becoming a life coach. That simple question started me on a slow but meaningful journey toward my second act.

Today, I feel like a different version of myself—still me, but living with intention, purpose, and a much clearer understanding of who God created me to be.

Here are a few things that helped me get there:

  1. Conversations with God – I knew in my head that I’m God’s beloved child, but in my heart I still wanted to prove my value by what I was “doing.” Learning to simply be was a huge and necessary shift for me.

  2. Life Coach Certification – As I went through the certification process, I had the privilege of being coached as well as coaching others. Experiencing what my clients were experiencing solidified for me the true value of coaching.

  3. Saying Yes to Connection – During that isolating season, it was easy to hide away—especially during a Michigan winter! But I began inviting women for coffee who were doing interesting things. Listening to their stories reminded me that we’re not meant to figure life out by ourselves—community matters more than we think.

  4. Understanding How My Thoughts Determine My Actions – Learning that the negative thoughts I had about my circumstances were shaping my feelings and actions became a catalyst for change. As I practiced new ways to think about the hard things in my life, everything shifted—my feelings, my actions, and ultimately, my direction.

  5. I Stopped Waiting – Once I got my thoughts under better control, I stepped out in faith rather than waiting for opportunities to come my way. That willingness to move forward opened doors I never would have expected.

You know what’s crazy about my life right now? I’m excited about it — even though my circumstances haven’t changed in any big, sweeping way. Sure, things look a little different than they did in a few years ago, but I’m still figuring things out.

The unknown future once terrified me. Today, it energizes me. I often find myself asking, What does God have in store for me, my business, and my family? And instead of spiraling, I can honestly say: I don’t know… and I’m okay with that.

I’m learning to show up each day with openness, curiosity, and trust — and I want that for you too. You don’t need to have everything figured out to move forward. Together, we can walk toward a future that feels hopeful, peaceful, and full of joy, even before anything around you changes.
